I know I have not posted here in some time, but for those not following my LJ, Lucky has a luxated lens which needs surgery and also will need a retinopexy. The vet is a good one - Complete Animal Eyecare of Sherman Oaks, Dr. Bruce Silverman practicing.

I knew it was going to be expensive, but the true surprise was the cost. I knew it was going to be a lot. I just did not know it was going to be that much.

Base charges for anesthesia, one month of rechecks, fluids, injection, hospitalization, medicines and e-collar - $788

Lens removal without artificial lens replacement - $1,850

Lens removal with insertion ans suturing of artificial lens - $2,475

Transpupilary retinopexy to be done two to three weeks after the main surgery - $1,000 flat fee.

Total: $3,638 to $4,263

Of which I have on hand $2,000 after the last week of vet visits ($225), tests ($477), presurgical blood panel and x ray ($282) and meds ($138) have taken to date $1,122. Mom can't help - I'm the one sending her money. Boss said he'd help, but I don't know how much. I have commissions coming in, but they're on a 30-day cycle and I won't see them until after December 1. I'm going to put some stuff up on e-bay, but I don't know that it will sell in time.

I know it's hard times, and I know it's close to Christmas. If you can loan (just specify that I need to pay you back and how fast) or donate anything, or have me write a story, or do something in Dreamweaver for you, or anything, please - I really need the help.

Leaving for Colorado on the morning of 5/30 - happy birthday to me - and will most likely be back on the evening of June 6. Mom needs help, and I am going out there to make sure she gets it.

I don't know what I will be doing about e-mail, and will try to voicepost as I can - you guys are my lifeline.

One of the good things did not pan out, so I am a little down about that. However, we lost out to a company notorious among wholesalers for product dumping - huge amounts of shit that would not otherwise sell unless it was marked down to teeny profits - on their multi-store accounts. I give it six months.

The new system is the love of my life and I am going to marry it. Quiet, fast, and can handle shitloads of tasking without so much as a hiccup. I am still transferring data, but it's a little like undertaking a cleaning of a massive, cluttered house. I'm dropping another gigabyte of RAM in shortly.

For some reason the osteoarthritis in my feet gave me sheer hell this week - I trimmed down a sheet of memory foam to fit my boots and loaded up on Glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM/SAM-e. It felt like everything forward of my arch was being forced through a ball-point pen. This is my payment for spending ten years in 3-4 inch heels - feet that caused the x-ray tech to ask if someone had ever taken a hammer to them. I do feel better this morning - both because of freshly washed sheepskin slippers and a lovely dream where my feet were toasty warm.

But damn, I do miss my shoes.

I love my workboots, birkies, sneakers and clogs - but I miss my pretty, pretty heels. I bought them like candy, wore them everywhere, and even had favorite pairs re-soled and heeled. I had a man buy a pair right off my feet one late night in Waikiki.

"I'll give you four hundred dollars for those shoes on your feet right now."

Wow! I can buy more shoes!

"Sure!"

*sighs* Birkenstocks just don't ring my bells the way a pair of Italian shoes can - the Italians really grok high heels.

More crossroads present themselves, and I wonder if Hecate isn't forcing me to make a lot of choices that I have slipped out of before. I keep coming back to the same damn one - the same fork, the same door, the same choice. I keep walking away from it, but who am I kidding here?

There is absolutely no reason to keep revisiting it, because the same damn thing happens every time - so it's time for the path not taken.
